Third time was the charm for Golf Blue, which after losing to Highland Tartan twice this season, snuck through on Saturday with a one-shot win.
After losing to the Tartans by 39 shots in round one and by 45 shots in round six, Golf declared that enough was enough during round 11, winning 70-69.
Kort Gay started things steady with a 24-18 win over Bert Spencer, but Greg Shay was able to draw this advantage in with a five-shot victory on his rink.
Harold Patullo’s 22-20 defeat of Gary Coburn tipped the scales in Golf ’s favour by the slimmest of margins, a welcome change of pace for the side which is currently ranked fourth in a six-team competition.
Highland still holds top of the ladder honours despite the loss, with second placed Dunolly Blue now trailing by 12 premiership points after a less than ideal win over Avoca Red on Saturday.
Avoca won two rinks on the day by five and four shots respectively, however, Greg Dobbin was unstoppable for Dunolly, recording an emphatic 45-12 victory to account for the 87-63 end score.
This made it three from three for the reigning premiers and also puts them within striking distance of Highland on the ladder for the first time in several rounds.
