The National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and nine Australian born NBA stars, including Maryborough’s own Matthew Dellavedova have donated $750,000 USD — the equivalent of more than one million Australian dollars to help those affected by bushfires.
With fires currently ravaging multiple parts of their home nation, the nine players came together last week in a joint statement to announce their contribution to relief and fire fighting efforts.
“We are heartbroken over the devastation these fires are causing all across our homeland,” the statement said.
“Our thoughts are with our families, friends and all of the people of Australia. We hope you feel our love and support and know that we will continue to bring awareness to this crisis globally and provide assistance in any way we can.”
Dellavedova took to social media to announce the contribution with a post reading “Appreciate the NBA and NBPA coming together with the Aussie NBA boys to support the Australian Bushfire Relief efforts. It’s a really tough time in Australia right now but we are resilient people and stick together.”
