Tartan’s top spot locked in

Golf Blueʼs Norm Crossley bowls during his sideʼs emphatic win over reigning division one premiers, Dunolly Blue on Saturday.

Highland Tartan has guaranteed its first place ranking on the ladder into 2020 with a solid win over third-placed Talbot Gold in round 10.

The two-rink, 81-49 win over Talbot on Saturday has awarded Tartan enough points to hold the top spot in division one no matter what happens in the final round of the year this weekend.

Greg Shay and Gary Coburn were victorious for Highland by 20 and 16 shots respectively while Peter McLoughin claimed Talbot’s single rink with a winning score of 23-19.

The 81-49 score was indicative of the vast difference between a dominant Tartan and even its closest ranked competitors, with Talbot now sitting just five premiership points behind second placed Dunolly Blue.

Dunolly missed its opportunity to separate itself ahead of the final round with a shock 77-52 loss to Golf Blue on Saturday.

Second from the bottom of the ladder side, Golf, completely eclipsed Dunolly, claiming all three rinks by a minimum of six points.

Kort Gay won his rink 27-19, Kevin Prime saw 24-18 success while Harold Patullo was 11 shots up at the end of play.

When the two teams last met back in round four, Dunolly thrashed Golf 92-65, so Saturday’s result was quite the backflip.

Avoca Red enjoyed a rare victory, with a two-shot clincher against Dunolly Gold.
