Riders ready to get revving for a cause

Gavin Hyde is inviting local motorbike enthusiasts to join him on Maryboroughʼs first toy run, with proceeds to go to Vinnies which volunteers like Samantha Harvison can use to help out those doing it tough.

Motorbike enthusiasts will be revving their engines and hitting the road for a good cause this Saturday as the first Maryborough Toy Run gets underway.

The ride is set to raise some much needed funds for the St Vincent de Paul Society ahead of Christmas and event organiser Gavin Hyde said the idea came about as a simple chance to pull the bikes out of the shed and raise some money.

“We thought this would be a good way to get out on the bikes for a ride while also making some money for a good cause,” he said.

“I know a lot of the workers at our local Vinnies and they do a great job so I thought it’d be good to give back.”

Mr Hyde said the idea for a toy run is not a new one but it will be a good way for locals to get involved.

“There’s already toy runs in places like Ballarat and Melbourne but there’s a lot of people with bikes in Maryborough,” he said.

“A lot aren’t able to get them out much so we thought this would be a good way to get both people and bikes out there.
