Owls fall flat in top of the table battle

Laanecoorieʼs Matt Smith sets off for a run during a one-day clash with Avoca last month. Laane kicked off its two-day season against Maryborough at the weekend and is likely to continue its undefeated roll.

Saturday’s clash between top of the ladder sides, Laanecoorie Dunolly and Maryborough got off to a solid start, but the Owls crumbled quickly and look very likely to concede their first two-day game of the season.

More was expected from Mary- borough in a game with their one- day cup opposition, but a very unfamiliar Owls list, bolstered by several A reserve players, struggled to combat the ferocity of Laanecoorie.

Maryborough was sent in to bat first at the weekend and the partnership of Sam Bartlett and Ben Hoban prevailed with 45 runs before Hoban (3) became the first of many Zac Graham victims.

Jake Postle was the next to come and go, bowled by Graham with no score.

Troy Hubble (4) stood by Bartlett while he accrued 29 runs, before he was claimed LBW by Steven Dellavedova.

Dellavedova backed this up, claiming a very dangerous Bartlett (66) with the help of Zac Polinelli in the field.
