After a few seasons away, Matt Beaston is making a return to the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL), signing on as Royal Park’s senior football coach for season 2020.

Beaston has been an assistant coach at Royal Park and cross-town rivals Maryborough Rovers in the past, but this is his first senior coaching venture within the MCDFNL.

Beaston and assistant coach Adam McLean have made the move to Royal Park, taking over from outgoing coaches Murray Bond and Zac Stewart, off the back of three years with Carngham Linton in the Central Highlands league.

Beaston said the “planets aligned” to see him back to the Park for season number seven in his coaching career.

“Royal Park was looking for a coach, I assisted there in 2015 and I guess the planets aligned and I’ve found my way back there after a couple of years,” he said.

“I know a few of the boys still, but I’m excited to meet the younger players and help them take their footy forward.

“I’m really grateful to be able to coach senior footy again, it’s what I really want to do at this point in my career.
