Bulldogs hot on the heels of MKM in first two-day match

Avoca skip Ben Morganti led from the front on Saturday, claiming MKMʼs Josh OʼConnor in the first round of two-day cricket.

MKM currently leads Avoca by 66 runs, but the Bulldogs have lots of cricket to get through this weekend, and they are eager to start the two-day season with a win.

On Saturday, Mill headed out to the kennel and were sent in to bat first after the home side won the toss.

Jaxon Smyth was the first cab off the rank, claimed at zero, leaving a partnership of captains Liam Radlof and Aaron Westbrook to get some numbers on the board.

A total of 40 runs transpired between the pair before Westbrook was claimed by George Norton.

Kieran Johns (3) appeared briefly before he was claimed by Jason Hunt, making way for Brohdie Smyth. Smyth and Radlof saw 30 runs before Nathan Holland struck, claiming Radlof (40) with some help from Hunt in the field.

Mitch Whelan (3), Smyth (7) and Brayden Wardlaw (0) were claimed very quickly from this point, leaving MKM at 7/71.

Josh O’Connor and Will Radlof pushed the side out slightly, but O’Connor was cut off at just one run by opposition skipper Ben Morganti.

Morganti seized Mill replacement Peter Wright as well, leaving the side defending one wicket at the 40 over mark.
