After three consecutive years of finals with no ultimate pay off, Harcourt is hoping to crack the code with help from a new senior football coach.
Harcourt native Alex Code has taken over the coaching reins from well respected Lions duo Sam Gale and Paul Chaplin for the 2020 season.
Code has big shoes to fill with Gale and Chaplin seeing the Lions to finals for every year of their three- term appointment, including the past season where after finishing in sixth place on the ladder, the Lions braved elimination finals only to be knocked out of semi’s the following week.
Code returned to the den this year after more than a decade away, but was unfortunately sidelined with injury for almost half a season.
Now recovered and a few weeks into preseason in his first ever coaching job, Code said the hype
within the side is really encouraging. “We’ve got some goals in place, we’re hoping to go all the way and see the ultimate success this season because we haven’t won a senior grand final in more than 10 years,” he said.
“Obviously we’ve been getting quite deep into finals and I think that’s why a lot of blokes have stuck around, they can see that we’re going the right way about it and success is just around the corner.
“It’s building a bit of a hype for everyone, knowing that we’re all sticking around.
“Harcourt was my junior team, it’s where I started my footy career so I just want to give back to the club.”
