Rain ruins round five of Saturday pennant and threatens round six

Bowling greens around the district were watered a little too well at the weekend, as wet weather sabotaged round five of the Goldfields Bowls Division’s 2019/20 Saturday Pennant competition.

Up to 15.8 millimetres of rain drenched the region, calling off all eight pennant games scheduled for Saturday.

Some major matches were missed with the down pour, including a top and tail clash between Highland Tartan and Dunolly Gold in division one, a first versus second match between Highland Red and Maldon in division two and the chance for Carisbrook to snag first place on the division three ladder from Dunolly Green.

Weather threatens to ruin another day of bowls this Saturday, with hosting clubs in Maryborough,

Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly all expecting rain sometime during the day — but thankfully nowhere near the amount that was seen last weekend.

Round six is fixtured to see Talbot Gold and Dunolly Gold, Golf Blue and Highland Tartan and Dunolly Blue and Avoca Red go head-to-head in division one.
