The annual Pyrenees Petanque Open Triples Tournament will return to Avoca’s main street this weekend in its 25th year.
The Pyrenees Petanque Club has hosted more than 50 major tournaments in its time with one of its feature events being this weekend’s two-day triples tournament.
The competition has drawn interest from far and wide with interstate and even international players set to grace the median strip of Avoca’s High Street this Saturday and Sunday.
Club secretary Ken Field said there are people from “all walks of life” travelling to Avoca to play, with almost 50 registrations already entered as of Wednesday.
“There are 47 online registrations already which is quite a number,” he said.
“It brings a clientele into the district who normally don’t come here, if you were to look at the background, skill level, location and demographics of the people who come here to play, it’s quite a diverse group.”
For registration purposes, players are asked to be at the playing area on Saturday by 9.30 for a 10 am start and 8.45 on Sunday for a 9.15 am start.
Online registrations can be made before Saturday at www.mypentanque.com.
