Local netballers honoured at BFNL’s Hall of Fame night

Maryborough FNCʼs Alisha Chadwick and Alicia Cassidy were named in the BFNLʼs team of the decade while Carol Sing was inducted into the leagueʼs hall of fame last month. The awards were historical as one of the first times netballers were recognised for their contributions to the Bendigo league.

What has long been hypothesised has been set in stone, as Maryborough’s Alisha Chadwick and Alicia Cassidy were officially named as two of the Bendigo Football Netball League’s (BFNL) best netballers to appear in the last decade.

Best mates, fellow 2020 Maryborough Football Netball Club (MFNC) coaches, league record holders and now team of the decade inductees, Chadwick and Cassidy were named at the BFNL’s 2019 Hall of Fame awards night late last month.

Chadwick, who retired from netball in 2016 after becoming the first netballer to play 350 A grade games in the BFNL, said the induction was “a bit of a surprise” given she only played for seven of the last 10 years.

“It was a bit of a shock if I’m honest. This decade has been towards the end of my career so to be chosen and alongside Alicia too was definitely a nice surprise,” she said.

“I started with Maryborough in 1993 and played until about 2016 with one and a half years off with kids so it was a good career.”

Carol Sing

MFNC netball stalwart Carol Sing was also recognised, inducted into the hall of fame as one of the first netballers on the league’s honour role.
