Shenae Hunt only MDCA cricketer selected for representative duties

Laanecoorie Dunollyʼs Shenae Hunt is YPL cricket bound after making selection for the Central Highlanders squad. Hunt is the only current MDCA player to make the cut and one of a very small group of female cricketers ever selected from the local region.

Just one Maryborough District Cricket Association player made it through the slips of regional representative cricket try outs, with Laanecoorie Dunolly’s Shenae Hunt set to appear in the Youth Premier League (YPL) this summer.

Soon to be 13-year-old Shenae will pull on gear for Central Highlands’ under 14 girls squad in seven YPL bouts this January.

Selections for the final squad were made after a winter training program and a trial phase.

Shenae said she was “excited”when she found out that she was selected for the Highlanders.

“I was excited because I didn’t really think I was going to get in. I tried out for it last year too and I didn’t make it — there were a lot of good girls,” she said.
