New skills learnt at Auskick day

Sophie Willman, Madden Rumpff, Emmie Graco and Theodore Holt had plenty of fun when a host of Maryborough kindergartens came together for an Auskick Footy Day last month.

Local kinder kids had the chance to meet their peers and get hands on at an Auskick Footy Day held last month.

Started in 2016, the day sees students from the local Federation College TAFE and Auskick facilitators guide kinder children through a host of activities at Jubilee Oval.

The initial concept behind the day had been to get Fed Uni TAFE students involved in a project, to put planning in place and try it out with the kinder children.

Goldfields Family Centre kindergarten teacher Wendy Powell said the day’s activities always prove popular and are not only a lot of fun, but also beneficial for all involved.

“It’s empowering for both the children and students, the children can see there are other kinder children in town and get to meet them, but the TAFE students also have the responsibility of thinking about how four year olds work and accommodating that,” she said.
