Laanecoorie Dunolly let the rest of the competition know exactly where it stands with an emphatic 137-run win over MKM in round one.
Last year MKM and Dunolly were each others closest ranked competitors, but a big off season for Laane has seen a massive amount of external talent added and it paid off in a big way on Saturday.
Electing to bat first, Laane needed just six batsmen to put up its massive 308-run total.
Last year ’s captain Liam Mottram and international import Justin Bramble opened for Laane, coming to a 47-run partnership before Bramble (29) was bowled by opposition skipper, Aaron Westbrook.
Mottram and Zac Graham pushed the side into triple figures before a Jason Sinclair ball landed in the wicket keeper’s gloves, dismissing Graham for 22.
This season’s captain, Matt Smith, who has headed back to his junior club of Laane off the back of a six-flag dynasty with Lake Wendouree, partnered with Mottram to push the side into unreachable territory.
A very healthy 164-run partnership with both Mottram and Smith reaching individual tons was put to rest with the dismissal of Smith (103) and saw Laane’s score read 3/270.
