Maryborough is set to host the 2019 Australian Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) Championships later this month.
Over three days from October 25 to 27 up to 150 competitors from around Australia, New Zealand and Europe are set to arrive in Maryborough for the championships.
Maryborough previously hosted the 2004 World MTBO Championships, the second ever at the time, and has again been selected due to the character of its local forests.
Peter Cusworth, Victorian MTBO coordinator and course setter for this year’s championships said Maryborough’s forests are “ideal” for the event.
“With the activity of local walkers, bike riders, motor bike riders and four wheel drivers all enjoying the forests around Maryborough, the resulting complexity of track networks that they have created in the area makes Maryborough an ideal site for MTBO,” he said.
The sport of MTBO sees competitors navigate and ride as fast as they can through complex networks of tracks in bushland.
Entries online are open until this Sunday, October 13 and some events can be entered on the day.
