Maiden round of A res gets off to rocky start

The first round of A reserve cricket for the 2019/20 season was played at the weekend and several games were over before they’d even started.

Natte Yallock forfeited its game to Colts Phelans, as did Maryborough to MKM, leaving just three games to be played in the maiden round.

After difficulty getting a side up and running in A grade, the Creswick Imperials enjoyed a 116- run win over Talbot.

The Knights elected to bat first, sending Luke Thomas and Andrew LeMarshall to open the season.

LeMarshall was claimed with no score making way for Matt Antonio who partnered with Thomas for 63 runs before Antonio (32) was dismissed by Jack Kenden.

Thomas (48) was claimed shortly after by Heath Cameron, just two runs shy of a half ton.

Jason Jones and Pearce Antonio proved a successful pairing, seeing 45 runs together before Jones (26) was dismissed by Anton Roche.

His replacement David Wright (8) and Antonio (22) were claimed with little extra contribution, seeing Creswick at 6/153.

Darren Cook (12*) and Peter Constable (9*) exhausted the remaining overs to bring the Imperials to a respectable 6/174.

On the chase, Talbot got off to a healthy start with Karl Gunther and Ryan Kenden partnering for 44 runs before Kenden (8) was dismissed by Matt Longridge.

A 1/44 start didn’t allude to the domino-like collapse that followed with Talbot bowled all out for 58 in just 18 overs.
