After disappointing results last season, Laanecoorie Dunolly Cricket Club (LDCC) is heading into the 2019/20 fixture swinging with two international recruits on board.
Nikolai Charles, who currently plays first class cricket with Barbados as a leg spin bowler and top-order batsman and wicket keeper/batsman Justin Bramble, a product of the Barbados Cricket Association’s elite division, will be donning the whites for Laane’s A grade side this season in a massive signing for the club.
The Barbadian duo touched down in Australia just last week and will live and work in Maryborough for the duration of their stay, while putting their Maryborough District Cricket Association (MDCA) opponents through their paces from this Saturday in the season opener.
For Nikolai, this trip is his first to Australia and he said he is looking forward to the experience and is hoping to leave his mark on some local kids.
“I’m an art teacher back home, so I’m hoping to get involved at a local school,” he said.
“I also went to Dunolly last week for the first time for junior training and I actually met one of the kids who has the same skill as me. We’re both leg spinners. I took a video of him and in the future I hope I can work with him and help him out.
“I’m looking forward to playing and helping out where I can.”
Justin’s an old hat at Aussie cricket, having played with Melbourne-based Strathmore Cricket Club last season with great success and said the return to Australia was fuelled by a desire to improve his coaching skills.
