Local students have been keeping busy as part of this year’s Design and Technologies Week, which took place recently.
Design and Technology Week is an initiative which runs from October 14 to 20 and seeks to promote design and technology, showcasing the work students across the country have been undertaking in these areas.
Year 12 product design and technology students at Highview College have been hard at work putting the final touches on their major projects for the year, with most just needing a final lick of paint.
Chloe Dos-Reis has spent the past 10 weeks putting together an end table with a bit of a twist.
“I’m making an end table which has a secret compartment type vibe to it, so the whole component was for the front and the sides to be pretty irregular with different squares and different panels, making it look like a brick type structure,” she said.
“Four of the drawers are openable with a push mechanism to open them and they’re kind of hidden. It will be painted charcoal when it’s done so you won’t be sure which panel is which.”
