Highland Tartan maintains grip on hotly contested division one ladder

Andy Brumby bowls for Highland Tartan on Saturday.

Despite dropping its first rink of the season, Highland Tartan has maintained its top of the ladder placing with a resounding 24-point win over Avoca Red at the weekend.

After suffering its second grand final defeat in as many years last season, Tartan has taken to season 2019/20 with tenacity, defeating its first two opponents in straight sets.

Despite currently sitting on the bottom of the division one ladder, Avoca ruined a three-game clean sweep for the Tartans by claiming one rink at the weekend.

George Brown was Avoca’s victor, defeating Brian Daly 26-20, while Greg Shay and Gary Coburn got the job done for Highland with 10 and 20 shots respectively.

All together this made for an 82- 58 victory for Highland, seeing it maintain top of the ladder credentials ahead of round four this weekend.

Nipping at Highland’s heels however is second placed Talbot Gold which sits just two premiership points away after it defeated Golf Blue with two out of three rinks.
