Highland Tartan gets redemption in round two

This head caused a lot of interest from competing sides Dunolly Blue and Highland Tartan.

Highland Tartan and Dunolly Blue met for the first time since the 2018/19 grand final on Saturday in round two of the Goldfields Bowls Division’s current season.

Highland Tartan reversed last year’s grand final result, which saw it go down in straight sets to Dunolly Blue, by claiming all three rinks and an overall 74-55 win at the weekend.

Brian Daly was Highland’s biggest winner with a nine-shot victory over Alan Weir’s rink.

Greg Shay toppled Chris Williams 19-15 while Gary Coburn (25) won over Barry Cann (19).

Tartan has now taken to the top of the division one ladder having claimed all premiership points on offer during the last two rounds.

Talbot Gold sits just behind in second place after it defeated Avoca Red by 10 points on Saturday.

Peter Fletcher took a 22-16 win over Joe Svilicic while Paul Radstock was victorious over Ian Proctor with a 10-shot advantage.

The final rink was the silver lining for Avoca, where George Brown toppled Peter McLoughlin 21-15 to slim the final winning score down to 66-56.

Similarly, Golf Blue and Dunolly Gold played a close game with just 11 points the difference at the end of play.
