Fire crews battle out of control burn off

Members of the Maryborough and Wareek Bung Bong fire brigades were busy cleaning through debris on Tuesday afternoon after a neighbourʼs burn off spread to the rear of a Moonlight property.

Local fire brigades were kept busy on Tuesday afternoon, battling a small fire at a Moonlight property after a neighbour’s burn off jumped the fence.

Tankers from the Maryborough and Wareek Bung Bong fire brigades were called to the blaze just before 2.30 pm on Tuesday afternoon to find the rear of the property partly engulfed in flame.

Although the fire was brought under control relatively quickly and did not appear to spread to anything valuable, crews remained on scene for some time cleaning up the debris.

Maryborough Fire Brigade Captain Darryl Wagstaff said the fire was caused by a neighbour burning off and said it was a “decent save” from crews to prevent the fire spreading into the property owner’s shed.

“The property next door was burning off and the fires were left unattended,” he said.
