Familiar foes Dogs and Crows meet in A grade

Lachlan Morganti was a key player for Avoca last weekend against Clunes and is sure to excel this round against familiar opponents, Beaufort.

After both moving up from A reserve this season, Avoca and Beaufort will face each other for the first time in A grade capacity on Saturday.

Avoca and Beaufort were the teams to beat in last year’s one-day reserves competition, eventually meeting in the grand final where the Bulldogs took a 59-run win.

While both sides have recruited some talent over the off season, there are plenty of familiar faces floating around which will add to this weekend’s clash.

Avoca heads in off the back of its first loss since 2017, defeated in its first A grade match with Clunes in round one last weekend.

The Dogs got off to a slow start on Saturday, losing their first three wickets for 37 runs, but a 122-run partnership between Lachlan Morganti and Matt Drummond lifted the spirits and saw the side just miss out on Clunes’ total score.

The loss was tough but proved Avoca’s ability to keep up with such an auspicious A grade side, with Clunes having made both A grade grand finals last season.

The Bulldogs only had two multiple wicket takers at the weekend with Josh Thompson claiming 2/27 and recruit George Norton claiming 2/49.
