Seventy years ago, almost to the day, 26 local women formed the Dunolly Ladies Bowling Club and this weekend the club is getting ready to celebrate this long-standing legacy.
On October 13, 1949 the Dunolly Ladies Bowling Club was formed and this Sunday, October 20 the now merged Dunolly Bowling Club will come together to celebrate the ladies’ platinum anniversary.
Dunolly stalwart Marg Davies said the tale of the ladies’ club is well documented, with former life member Isla Flett having compiled a full club history.
“The club history of the ladies section was complied by former life member, Isla Flett who has since passed away,” she said.
“The Dunolly Ladies Bowling Club was formed on October 13, 1949 at a meeting and it was decided that their first subscriptions would be fixed at the equivalent of $2.10.
“There were 26 foundation members and all their dresses had to be white, even their tights, there were no slacks of course.
