Creswick unable to field A grade side for 2019/20 MDCA season

The Creswick Imperials Cricket Club had to withdraw late from this season’s Maryborough and District Cricket Association’s (MDCA) A grade competition, citing lack of numbers and the league has confirmed it will only field an A reserve side for season 2019/20.

The Imperials played within the MDCA’s A grade division up until the 2008/09 season and returned after several seasons off in 2014/15.

The Knights then made it to the 2015 A grade one-day grand final where they were defeated by Maryborough for the cup.

Despite making the 2016/17 two-day grand final, the 2017/18 one-day grand final and two-day semi finals last season, the Imperials have been unable to get a side fit for A grade together for 2019/20.

MDCA president Mark Allen confirmed to The Advertiser last week that Creswick will definitely field an A reserve side this Saturday.

“When I spoke to the Creswick guys they were struggling for week one (of A grade) and were concerned that they weren’t going to be able to field a side of A grade standard,” Allen said.
