The Maryborough Community Garden is encouraging local green thumbs to get a taste of community gardening at its open day this weekend.
The group’s members will be showcasing the fruits of their hard work to those interested in learning some gardening tips or joining in with the community garden spirit.
Maryborough Community Garden president Margaret Parsons said the group held its first open day last year and thanks to some funding was able to get another one up and running this year.
“Our first open day was really good fun. We wanted to have another so we applied for some funding through the Avoca Community Bank & Maryborough Branches & St Arnaud Agency’s 20FOR20 community giveaway and got just over $2000 to host it and get some new equipment,” she said.
The open day runs from 11 am to 3 pm in conjunction with the Goldfields Employment and Learning Centre (GELC) Neighbourhood House’s open day from 8 am to 3 pm.
GELC’s open day begins at 8 am with a garage sale and breakfast barbecue.
Both events will take place at GELC on 88-90 Burke Street, Maryborough on Saturday, October 19.
