Maryborough’s CFA members will now be safer and have more control on the fire ground thanks to two donations worth a combined more than $6000.
The brigade was officially presented with a $5000 cheque by the Maryborough Masonic Lodge last week along with a further $1357 from the Maryborough Community Bank Branch.
Maryborough CFA Captain Darryl Wagstaff said the funding will be used to purchase a digitised weather station which will provide vital information for firefighters, particularly during the upcoming fire season.
“The Freemason’s chose us for the grant and the bank approached us about funding and were able to top up what we needed to purchase the weather station,” he said.
“The station can forecast accurate, real-time weather and that information will be transmitted to iPads installed in the trucks so the crew on the fire ground will have accurate, precise and up-to-date forecasts.
“The biggest benefit is direct forecasting so we can predict exactly when a wind change will come. That’s important in helping us contain fires and save lives and it’ll be a great asset for the coming fire season.”
