Both the men’s and women’s Blazers have maintained red- hot form to stay undefeated through round two of the Country Basketball League’s 2019/20 season.
After winning two games at home in round one, the men’s Blazers got the job done over small-town rivals the Castlemaine Cannons on Saturday night.
The Blazers trailed 19-16 after the first quarter and despite fighting the margin down to one point halfway through the second term, they again were left behind at half time with a 10-point deficit.
Scoring was steady for both sides in the third and while Maryborough slightly outscored Maine 15-13, the
Cannons still maintained the lead at three quarter time.
A massive push from the Blazers saw the side put up 22 points through multiple avenues in the final quarter of the game to eclipse the Cannons.
Several unanswered field goals from the midway point of the quarter saw the Blazers creep up to the total, but Castlemaine fought hard.
It wasn’t until the two and a half minute mark when Harry Butler landed a free throw that Mary- borough took its first lead since the first quarter.
