MFNC senior netball coach Deb Symes calls it a day after two season

Deb Symes said itʼs time to retire after around 20 back-to-back years of coaching various country Victorian teams. Symes hangs up her hat after a final two years with Maryborough.

Beloved Maryborough Football Netball Club (MFNC) senior netball coach Deb Symes has called it a day on her decorated coaching career.

Symes coached throughout the Bendigo, North Central, Heathcote and District and Loddon Valley leagues for more than 20 years with various different clubs and even coached cross-district Magpie rivals, Castlemaine in 2017 before signing on with Maryborough in 2018.

Symes said her two seasons with Maryborough have been very “enjoyable” and a great way to end a decades long journey with netball.

“Maryborough is such a lovely club and I was made to feel very welcome. All the players are great and enjoy each others company which just makes it a good place to be on a Saturday,” she said.

“That’s what I really enjoyed about it, in Bendigo you don’t get that small town feeling and I myself came from a small country town so it was a great way to finish off my coaching career.

“It’s just time for me. I’m getting older and I actually started playing in the Bendigo FNL one year after it was formed.
