The Maryborough Football Netball Club is on a high after two of its junior teams played in, and won, their respective grand finals at the weekend.
Maryborough’s inaugural 15s netball side took out the Bendigo Strathdale Netball Association’s section 1B grand final on Friday night, despite playing in an 18 and under section of the competition.
In a massive effort, Maryborough toppled Jets Sapphires 30-23 for the win, despite several losses to the same side throughout the year.
Maryborough’s success continued the next day in the Bendigo Junior FL’s under 12 A reserve football grand final.
After a slow start, the Magpies defeated Quarry Hill in a seven-point thriller on Saturday.
Quarry Hill led by 13 points at the first break but the Pies worked hard to take over in the second term, leading 19-15 at half time.
This fired Quarry Hill up, seeing the side storm out in front by 10 points in the third quarter.
