Cancer patients in the Central Goldfields Shire will be able to receive specialist care closer to home thanks to a $500,000 State Government funding boost.
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford announced the funding last month which comes from the Labor Government’s commitment to fund 500,000 specialist appointments in regional Victoria.
Patients needing specialist cancer treatment in Maryborough will benefit from 2000 more local oncology appointments in 2019-20 at the Maryborough Hospital.
Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) CEO Terry Welch said the announcement is “pleasing” for the health service.
“As the community has seen, MDHS is leaving no stone unturned to bring services locally to the communities of our catchment,” he said.
“This announcement of support is pleasing and consistent with our focus and drive and again we are grateful for the support and opportunities we receive.
“We have recently commenced the public chemotherapy program, and the outpatients program we have commenced has been extremely well received.
