Butler to take the field in VFLW grand final

Carisbrookʼs Lauren Butler will feature as one of 13 AFLW players for Collingwood as they take on the Western Bulldogs this Sunday.

Carisbrook’s Lauren Butler will play in her first ever VFLW grand final this weekend under interesting pretences with her current side, Collingwood facing her former side, the Western Bulldogs for premiership glory.

Butler has played seven games this year including last weekend’s preliminary final win over the Southern Saints and a semi final match with the Bulldogs the weekend before.

This is Butler’s first VFLW season with Collingwood, off the back of her AFLW debut for the Maggies at the start of this year.

Butler did break into the VFLW last season however, donning the Bulldogs’ colours before injury cut her maiden state season short.

This makes Butler ’s inclusion this Sunday all the more exciting, as she is likely to see a few familiar faces out there on the Ikon Park surface.

Meeting the Western Bulldogs just two weeks ago in semi finals, minor premiers Collingwood dropped the ball in the fourth quarter to luck out by 12 points after scores sat level at three quarter time.

The 2019 VFLW grand final will be played at Ikon Park this Sunday, September 22 with the first bounce at 11.35 am.

It and the men’s VFL grand final between Richmond and Williamstown will be televised on Channel 7.
