After a much improved season from Maryborough, the Pies battled through one last game for 2019 and faced their biggest loss in quite some time.
The Magpies lowered their colours by a massive 197 points to the competition’s minor premiers, Strathfieldsaye on Saturday.
It was not the end that coach Ben Lavars deserved for his final game in the role and it was certainly not the result deserved by the most successful Magpie squad in seven years.
But Storm rolled in at the weekend without mercy, claiming Maryborough in their wake in a massive show of strength ahead of finals.
Strath took 12 shots at goal in the first quarter, with six successful, while the Pies put up two and one behind to trail by 29 points at the first break.
Two wasted opportunities in front of the big sticks in the second term was all Maryborough offered to the board, all the while Strath stacked on a massive 12.6 (78) to extend their lead to triple figures by the main break.
