Pies luck out to Storm by just four goals

Maryborough’s Jordan Macilwain looks to pass across the court during the side’s round nine match with Strathfieldsaye. Macilwain battled hard again for the Magpies on Saturday where the side was unable to topple Strath in their last game of the season.

Maryborough’s 2019 came to a shattering end at the week- end with the side lucking out to Strathfieldsaye by just four goals.

The Magpies got an early lead at the Triple M Park courts on Saturday, leading 16-14 by the first break.

Storm were determined to finish their tough season on a high and put up a massive fight to even out the score 25-all at half time.

Strath outscored Maryborough 11-7 in the third quarter, establishing the lead that would award them with a win in the last regular round of the season.

A goal-for-goal final term saw both sides put up 12, but Maryborough wasn’t able to get the excess turn overs needed to break Storm’s lead and in the end went down 48-44.

The ever reliable Alicia Cassidy had another cracking game in the midcourt for Maryborough while Jordan Macilwain battled hard under the ring and delivered the ball with accuracy.
