Pies fight hard in final home game

Maryboroughʼs Bella Westbrook passes to Jordan Macilwain during the sideʼs clash with Kyneton earlier this month. Westbrook went on to claim best on court for the Pies at the weekend against Kangaroo Flat.

Maryborough pulled out the stops for its final home game of the season, making top three side Kangaroo Flat work overtime for a win in the second last round of the home and away season.

Considering that the Magpies are ranked second from the bottom of the ladder while Flat sits in third place, Saturday’s game was an incredible show of strength from the Borough.

The last time the pair met in round eight, Flat was victorious 57- 36, but this time the Pies fought hard for a much improved final score of 59-46.

The Kangaroos led by five goals at quarter time and further built on this with a 13-10 second term to take an eight-goal advantage into the main break.

An extremely competitive third term saw both sides put up 14 goals before three quarter time, increasing the score but not altering the eight-goal margin heading into the final quarter.
