Pies face tough final clash against Strath

Maryboroughʼs Ben Lavars forces his opponent, and the ball, to the boundary line.

Maryborough will face the highest ranked side in the Bendigo Football Netball League to finish off season 2019 this weekend.

The Magpies head into Saturday with nothing to lose, having enjoyed a much improved season and being dealt a rough hand in meeting minor premiers, Strathfieldsaye to cap off the final home and away round.

Maryborough’s historic victory last weekend, where it claimed the most amount of wins in one season since 2011, was largely acknowledged as its last opportunity for a win this year given its final opponents.

Strath has dropped just one game this season and have maintained a two-win hold on the ladder ’s premier spot for the past four rounds.

The side will be confident of another large win over the sixth- placed Magpies this weekend.

When the pair last met in round nine, Storm thundered home with a massive 144-point win.

Leading league goal kicker, Lachlan Sharp was too much to handle for the Magpies on that date and booted a bag of 16.
