Newstead face tough test in first elimination final against Maldon

Newstead will be kicking itself ahead of the weekend, with a massive improvement in results this year seeing it scrape into finals, but its biggest test lies ahead in an elimination round against a determined Maldon side.

This time last year the Kangaroos had finished their 2018 season in 12th place on the ladder with just three wins for the entire season.

The Roos have improved two fold and even snared a finals placing for their efforts despite some tough results this season.

Newstead lost a massive amount of talent over the off season, bidding farewell to Kyle Hamilton, Kaleb McBride, Sam Kerr and young Liam Latch, all of whom still play locally in either the MCDFNL of the BFNL.

Luckily, the return of Joel Smith from Castlemaine, the continued play of coach Mark Ramsey, Oscar Lynzaart and Jayden Bott and the addition of Kieran Sait and Jay Reardon has patched up a few holes in the Roos’ outfit.

Maldon just made finals last season with an eighth place finish and has showed massive improvement this year with fifth place and some big accolades backing it into a tough finals campaign.
