Maryborough’s Jacob Lohmann to make VFL debut with North Melbourne

Jacob Lohmann is set to make his VFL debut this weekend for North Melbourne. The now 19-year-old made a name for himself by captaining St Patrickʼs side to the Herald Sun Shield final last year and playing with the GWV Rebels.

Jacob Lohmann has been putting in the hard yards, training several times a week with North Melbourne’s VFL side for the better part of a year, but on Monday it all paid off.

Lohmann is Maryborough’s latest addition to state football after being named in the Kangaroos’ final squad to take on Geelong this Saturday.

After making North’s rookie squad earlier this year, Lohmann continued to play with Ballarat side Lake Wendouree, in between VFL trainings at North.

The chances of getting picked for a game this season were looking slim with 18 rounds passed already, making Lohmann’s debut this weekend all the more satisfying.

“At training on Monday, David Loader the head coach and Brendan Whitecross the captain had a bit of a joke with me, they asked me if I thought I should play and of course I said ‘yes’,” he said.

“I rang mum straight away and she was really teary — so was nan. It’s a lot of work but when you get to tell your family, it’s all worth while in the end.
