Magpies fail to get over the line in Kyneton clash

Keely Hare shoots at goal for Maryborough during their close loss to Kyneton at the weekend.

Maryborough has tumbled down to eighth place on the A grade ladder after a shattering six-goal loss to Kyneton.

The Pies knew Saturday would be a tough task, having drawn with the Tigers back in round seven.

Kyneton indulged in its home court advantage, quickly taking a four-goal lead at quarter time.

The Tigers were able to extend that to nine goals at the main break as the Magpies fought hard to make the most of every goaling opportunity.

Maryborough goalies Jordan Macilwain and Keely Hare out shot the Tigers 14-10 in the third term, narrowing the gap to just five goals by the final break.

Kyneton held on for dear life in the final term and were just able to hang on to claim a slim six-goal victory.

Ella Tranter, Hare and Macilwain were praised for their efforts in an extremely tough clash.
