Kangaroos and Tigers go head-to-head

Lextonʼs Nigel Reid hand passes under pressure to team mate Tom Cullinan during a shattering qualifying final loss to Carisbrook last Saturday. The Tigers will now take on Newstead in semi finals this Sunday.

After a comprehensive hiding in qualifying finals last weekend, a red faced Lexton will be on the war path against Newstead, a side that narrowly scraped through to the second round of finals.

Lexton was demoralised by 112 points on Saturday in what should have been a much closer contest with Carisbrook given respective ladder standings.

The defending premiers finished the home and away season on the top of the ladder, while Lexton finished in fourth place with an amazing history heading into the finals series.

Before Saturday’s defeat, Lexton had either won or drawn all of its games since round four in an amazing run.

The Tigers were certainly brought back down to earth by the dominant Redbacks and will surely lash out at the Kangaroos this Saturday.

The Roos were an outside chance to even make finals this season, finishing in eighth place on the ladder and headed into last weekend’s elimination final with Maldon as clear underdogs.

But in an incredible show of strength, the Steaders knocked off their favoured opponents by four points in the most thrilling match of the weekend.

This tenacity against a top five side, which was the only side to come close to defeating Lexton in the latter half of the season, is a great sign ahead of such a meaningful match this weekend.
