Carisbrook had no trouble dismissing Avoca in freezing and muddy conditions on Saturday, but the Dogs did their best to bring it up to the reigning champions.
Avoca’s late season injury woes continued when another of its experienced players, Dylan Sloane, was a late scratching, and the Bulldogs took to their home field with 11 of their regular senior team missing.
Carisbrook took full advantage of the situation with 21 scoring shots on goal to four in the first half resulting in a 12.9 (81) to 0.4 (4) scoreline.
The Redbacks were missing Lachlan Edwards from their line- up but were still too strong at the centre bounce with Jackson Bowen and Nick Wright setting the Redbacks alight, allowing Ash Munari to kick another five goals to take his tally to 88 goals for the season.
To the Bulldogs’ credit, they fought the game out to the end and despite not goaling for the entire game, they did mange to reduce the Redbacks’ to just four second half goals.
