The Australian Boomers squad, including Maryborough’s Matthew Dellavedova, touched down in China earlier this week ahead of their first FIBA world cup game this Sunday.
Australia’s illusive cup dreams have dramatically improved after a shock win over the USA in Melbourne last Saturday.
The 98-94 triumph saw the Aussies defeat the US for the first time in history after 78 straight losses.
While the win was only during an exhibition match, it signals some great things for the Boomers ahead of a tough run at the cup.
Post win, Dellavedova took to Instagram to simply write “Awesome night. Thanks to everyone supporting the Australian Boomers”.
After touching down in China on Monday, Australia faced a final tune-up game with Germany on Wednesday night.
Germany dominated from the outset, taking a 45-29 lead by half time.
A run in the fourth quarter saw the Boomers, including back-to-back baskets from Dellavedova, win the final frame 21-12, but it was too little too late with a 10-point defeat resulting
