Maryborough Rovers turned it on for a bigger than usual crowd on Sunday, going down by just 12 goals to a dominant Trentham side in the WorkSafe Victoria game of the month.
The potential for the Saints to claim a big win over an inconsistent Rovers side was high, but an evenly matched first two quarters set the scene for the most competitive game of the round.
The Saints sat just one goal ahead after the first and were only able to extend that by three goals to four by the major break.
The Pies looked like they were working twice as hard as the Saints, often getting the ball close to the ring before it was plucked off by Trentham’s ferocious defence and sent all the way back down the court.
