MCDFNL footballers kicking goals with AFL Goldfields squad selection

MCDFNL footballers Zac Mortlock (Natte Bealiba), Taylor Kennedy (Avoca), Ben Cass (Trentham) and Jordi Cossar (Natte Bealiba) are headed to Sydney this weekend as part of the AFL Goldfieldsʼ interleague squad.

The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) is well represented in the AFL Goldfields’ under 18s squad set to head to Sydney this Sunday.

The MCDFNL has supplied four of its best junior players, Taylor Kennedy (Avoca), Ben Cass (Trentham) Jordi Cossar and Zac Mortlock (Natte Bealiba) and also the squad’s coach, Matt Smith of Talbot.

Smith has worked with AFL Goldfields’ junior academy for several years and said he is looking forward to the “unknown challenge” that lays ahead of his squad.

“It’s a bit of a revamped program this year, previously the squad would head up to far north Queensland and AFL Goldfields found that those games weren’t as competitive as they would’ve liked,” Smith said.

“While it was always a great experience, the Sydney trip will be a lot more competitive on the football side of things.”
