The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) has named this weekend Women in Football Round and aims to celebrate the contributions of women and girls around the district to their local football clubs.
As one of just three female presidents currently serving in the MCDFNL, Dunolly Football Netball Club president Ash Lierich said the work of females in largely male- dominated roles is a great thing for any club.
“Our president, secretary and treasurer are all female. We have females everywhere through our football as well,” she said.
“We’ve got female goal umpires, trainers, football managers, women who put their hands up to do scoring and time keeping.
“It’s great that Newstead, Harcourt and Dunolly all have female leadership and it’s also good to be able to show kids that you can do anything or have any aspirations.”
As a champion of netball, Lierich said the transition to overseeing both football and netball has been easy.
