Wild weather and the pressure of a long-standing rivalry didn’t phase Maryborough at the weekend, with the side claiming its second win over Castlemaine this season.
With a win total of five for the first time since 2014, the Pies are walking on sunshine despite battling through extreme wet- weather conditions at Camp Reserve on Saturday.
In an all-Magpie affair, Borough kept Castlemaine scoreless for the entire first quarter, while slotting 2.4 through to hold a 16-point jump on the other Magpies for quarter two.
Maine hit the board for the first time in the second, kicking one major and one minor score while Maryborough had four cracks at goal, but only being successful in one instance.
A score of 1.1. (7) to 3.7 (25) wasn’t anything to write home about, but a vibrant third-quarter effort awaited Maryborough’s fans.
