Maryborough dropped the ball against Eaglehawk at the weekend, conceding a painful 36-goal defeat.
After the Pies lost to the Hawks by 16 goals back in round three, the side had hoped for a more competitive showing than what eventuated on Saturday.
An 18-13 first quarter saw Maryborough well within striking distance of the Two Blues, but the pressure of the Hawks got stronger as time went on.
Heading into the second term five goals down, a 10 to 15 quarter wasn’t ideal for the Pies who then sat 10 goals down at half time.
Things only got worse for the Magpies in the second half of the match, with the Hawks blowing out the score with 12 extra goals in the third to lead 56-34 with just one term to go.
