Magpies fail to stand up to Eaglehawk pressure

Ben Lavars passes to a team mate down field.

Maryborough’s triumphant run has come to an end with a 116-point thrashing from Eaglehawk at the weekend.

For the first time in a long time, the Magpies headed into a clash with a top four side with some expectation to stay competitive.

But it was done and dusted fairly early on for the Pies on Saturday, who already sat at a 45-point deficit by half time.

Maryborough did get just one less shot in front of goals than the Hawks in the first term, but the Pies just weren’t able to convert their opportunities like the home side did.

This saw Maryborough kick 2.5 (17) in the first to Eaglehawk’s 7.1 (43) to put them on the back foot at the earliest point in the game.
