An understaffed Avoca side collected an unsuspecting win over Maldon by the slimmest of margins at the weekend.
In very windy conditions at the Avoca Public Park on Saturday an exciting contest unfolded, in which both teams were hard at the contest which created a large number of stoppages right through the game.
Heading in, a fourth-placed Maldon was expected to get one over the eighth placed Bulldogs, but the Dogs snatched victory in the dying minutes of the game, shocking the competition.
There were a number of highlights throughout the day including the duel between two of the league’s premier ruckmen in Avoca’s Rowan Andrews and Maldon’s Josh Pascoe, which was an enthralling contest.
The ground level play of Shaun Burchell was also entertaining as he continually got the ball forward for Maldon to Rhys Ford who played a key role, kicking four goals for the game.
Hayden Kelly spent a lot of time up forward for the Bombers, but had minimal effect as Avoca’s Michael Henningsen ran the ball out of defence at every opportunity.
