Young gun claims championship title

Maryboroughʼs Rieley Fitzgibbon has headed home from the Australian Clay Target Skeet Nationals with a stack of medals and a championship title.

Young gun Rieley Fitzgibbon has hit the mark once again, claiming the title of the 2019 Australian 20 gauge Junior Skeet Champion.

Practicing his accuracy with a piece of tape, a laser pointer and a computer program in his Maryborough home, Rieley headed to the Australian Clay Target Skeet Nationals in Wagga Wagga last month where he claimed five placings and the overall title.

Rieley was named third in the juniors 410 bore champion, second in the A grade 20 gauge champion, third in the A grade skeet champion, second in the A grade champion of champions and third in the junior champion of champions.

Now with his recent haul of accolades, several years of competition shooting behind him and once again being named in the Junior Victorian State Team,

Rieley’s dream of one day wearing the green and gold is only getting stronger.

“I shot 100 straight (four rounds of 25 targets consecutively) for the first time at nationals which was pretty good,” he said.
