In what was one of the games of the round, Trentham jumped out of the starting blocks on Saturday to take a convincing win over Talbot.
The two sides were evenly matched heading into the game but the Saints were too slick all around the ground.
A four goal to one opening stanza was all the visiting Saints needed to get the upper hand, meaning all the side had to do was maintain their lead for the remainder of the game.
However, it was a hard fought defensive game after quarter time, with both teams only scoring five more goals each for the remainder of the match.
The Hawks outplayed Trentham in the second term, adding another goal and three behinds to the board while holding the Saints to a handful of behinds.
Trentham fought back in the third to add another two goals but Talbot was not going down without a fight, adding another two goals of its own.
The final term was more of the same as both sides struggled to make an impact on the board, but Trentham’s further three goals to Talbot’s two were enough to give the Saints the win.
